The Efficient MD: How Doctors Can Use Evernote As A Professional Memory Accessible Anywhere, Part 2: Using Evernote as an Electronic Health Record (EHR)

    Hi,

I just came across your post - thanks for sharing your experience. Is each patient record unique when you add it in Evernote? In other words, if you've seen a patient five times in a year, will you have five separate notes/records for that patient? Or do you keep all of the records for one patient in the same note?

Also, it seems that Evernote doesn't support templates anymore. Your instructions mention creating customized templates, so I'm a little confused.

    Thanks again.

Typically, I've just edited the previous note with all the new information,
changed the date, and printed out the new note. That way, there's only one
note. (I use a hybrid paper-electronic medical record, which means the
formal chart note is paper-based but is also available for review in
Evernote.) Evernote itself doesn't provide the templates — I've created my
own templates and macros using TextExpander for the Mac.

Thanks for your response, Joshua. I now understand that you're using a hybrid paper-electronic model, so you don't have to worry about storing multiple records for a patient. This also cancels out the need for a blank template that you can fill out for each patient, since you can just edit the previous saved record as you said (without worrying about losing that previous record, since it's in your paper files). I'm interested in a 100% electronic system, so perhaps Evernote isn't the best option for me. I'm really trying to find a way to make it work, but without the capacity to create and save blank templates for new/existing patients, it doesn't really seem practical.

Right. Evernote is emphatically not an EMR. Have you used Practice Fusion?
  • Chris · 10 months ago
No, I hadn't seen that but it looks fantastic! I just watched the demo and I'm going to login and play around. Do you have any experience using it? Are you satisfied?

I haven't personally used it but the physicians I know who use it are
apparently happy. Any practice fusion users out there want to comment?
